Why autumn might be the best season to be outdoors

Posted by Bert Bertschat on

There’s something special about being outdoors in autumn.

The trails are quieter. The air feels fresher. Forests seem to change colour almost by the day, making even the most familiar places feel completely different.

Of course, autumn brings its challenges too. Temperatures begin to drop, the wind picks up, and a crisp morning can quickly turn into a wet and chilly afternoon.

But colder weather doesn’t mean it’s time to head home.

Cold often starts at your hands and feet

Your hands and feet are often among the first places where you notice the cold, particularly when you’re spending long periods outdoors or when your activity level drops.

Once your feet become cold and uncomfortable, even the most enjoyable walk, cycle or day outdoors can suddenly feel a lot longer.

Good footwear, warm socks and proper insulation should always be the starting point. But as temperatures continue to fall, active heating offers something insulation alone cannot: its own source of warmth.

When heated socks make the difference

Heated socks aren’t just for freezing winter days.

They can provide extra comfort while walking, hiking, cycling, fishing, working outdoors, enjoying winter sports or simply spending a long day outside. They’re particularly useful for activities where periods of movement are followed by time spent standing or sitting still.

And when winter arrives and temperatures approach or fall below freezing, that extra warmth becomes even more valuable.

Rather than relying solely on thicker layers, heated socks allow you to add warmth directly where you need it most.

Adjust your warmth throughout the day

British weather rarely stays the same for long. A cold morning can turn into a mild afternoon, while sunshine can give way to wind and rain before you know it.

That’s where adjustable heating comes into its own.

Turn the heat up when you’re standing still or starting to feel the cold. Reduce it once you’re moving again and your body begins generating more heat naturally.

Combined with suitable footwear and clothing, this gives you greater control over your comfort throughout the day.

Stay out longer

Ultimately, good outdoor clothing shouldn’t be something you have to think about.

It should allow you to focus on everything else.

Take the longer route through the woods. Stay another hour waiting for the perfect photograph. Keep cycling as the temperature drops. Enjoy the stillness of a cold winter morning.

Because colder days shouldn’t mean spending less time outdoors.

Discover our heated socks and take the warmth with you, wherever the season takes you.

Stay warm. Stay out longer.
